How Lindsey uses CFT

Lindsey uses compassion-focused approaches with clients who struggle with self-criticism, shame, or feeling that they are never doing enough. Together you explore how those patterns developed and practice responding to yourself with more understanding and support.

The aims are to reduce self-criticism and shame, build self-acceptance and emotional safety, strengthen your inner sense of support, and help you feel more connected and at ease within yourself.

Lindsey uses CFT with clients dealing with trauma, anxiety, and long-standing emotional patterns, and self-compassion is part of her work on depression and grief.

What the research says

A 2023 meta-analysis of 7 controlled trials and 7 observational studies found that CFT decreased self-criticism and increased the ability to experience soothing.2 The authors note that more randomized trials comparing CFT with other therapies are needed.2 An earlier meta-analysis of compassion-based interventions, with data from 1,285 participants, highlighted their potential benefits.1
