How Lindsey uses somatic work
Lindsey brings attention to the body throughout her work, helping clients notice tension, breathing, grounding, and shifts in how they feel. Together you explore these experiences so you can recognize your responses and develop ways to feel more present and supported.
Her somatic approach draws on her Brainspotting, mindfulness, and other body-informed training, and on nervous-system-informed care.
The aims are to help you feel more calm and grounded, understand your reactions more clearly, and feel more connected to yourself.
Lindsey uses somatic work in her work on trauma, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and emotional regulation. You can read about the related approaches on the Brainspotting and mindfulness pages.
What the research says
Research on body-focused therapies is newer and smaller than research on EMDR and CBT. The first randomized controlled trial of Somatic Experiencing for PTSD, with 63 participants, compared 15 weekly sessions with a waitlist and reported positive results suggesting the method may be effective.1 Somatic Experiencing differs from exposure therapy in that it does not require an extensive or full retelling of the traumatic events.1 A 2017 trial tested a brief version of Somatic Experiencing for chronic low back pain with PTSD symptoms.2
Those studies tested Somatic Experiencing, a specific method. Lindsey’s profile does not list Somatic Experiencing training. Her somatic work draws on her Brainspotting, mindfulness, and other body-informed training.
